Provider of Open-Source Developer Tools Secures Funding
Seattle, WA — September 23, 2003— Bugopolis, LLC., provider of turn-key solutions for opensource developer tools, today announced it has secured funding from Humid Town Ventures, LLC advancing the company’s position in the open-source market.
“With more companies migrating to open-source software, this market offers significant growth potential,” said Jim Walters, Director of Technology. “I believe that Bugopolis is well positioned to capitalize on this opportunity, as evidenced by the early success of our first two products and our plans to deploy future solutions that will meet the demands of this growing audience.” “Bugopolis has found a unique need of producing technology solutions that are high functionality at reasonable cost that shows great promise. We are pleased to have the opportunity to partner with them to help add polish an support to the open-source applications through their server appliance strategy”, said Peter Gregory, President of Humid Town Ventures, LLC.
The investment will enable Bugopolis to move toward the next phase of products that will
continue to expand the useability, availability and security of web-based, open-source solutions. The company will fund continued research and development of new products and expand sales and marketing. “Our mission—to produce affordable alternatives for companies that do not want to diminish their bottom line by investing their engineering time in maintaining systems or by paying high license fees, and who want easy, reliable, secure access to best-of-breed open-source tools—has been well received by our customers including the U.S. Navy , NASA, small development teams, universities and large petroleum companies” noted Walters. “The enthusiastic response of the market demonstrates that companies are hungry for reliable alternatives to products that carry with them high license fees, and that they are receptive to open-source solutions”.
Since Bugopolis's founding in August 2002, the company has shipped its first two products,
BugStation™ and ProjectStation™; server appliances that deliver open-source software
solutions. BugStation is the fastest and easiest method for using Bugzilla, the defect-tracking software developed by Mozilla.org that has in excess of 50,000 users. ProjectStation is a collaborative software system used by developers for version control and to centralize communication and all aspects of development projects. ProjectStation offers low-cost competition to such industry giants as VALinux and Collabnet by serving up GForge, a branch of the open-source software from which SourceForge was originally developed. Bugopolis makes the solutions affordable by eliminating per-seat license charges and reducing maintenance and installation costs; the hallmark of all Bugopolis products.
